Becca torncello

SPORTS PHOTOGRAPHER

My name is Becca Torncello and I am a senior Photography major at SUNY Fredonia. My love for Sports Photography started in middle school when I would take pictures at my brother's baseball games, and share them with him and his team. The adrenaline of catching those split second moments in a game never gets old.

This will be my third semester working for the Fredonia Athletic Department as a photographer, where I shoot Media Days, Games, Award Ceremonies, Special Events, etc. The experience and knowledge I have gained from working for my school’s athletic department has changed my whole trajectory in the sports industry, and has benefited me in other areas of my life as well. I can’t thank everyone in the athletic department enough for the trust they have in me, and the constant support they give me in all of my work.

This summer I will be flying out to Wisconsin to work for the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters, a baseball team in the Northwoods League, as their Photography Intern. I am so grateful for the opportunity to work with this team, and I am extremely excited to grow my craft and expand my knowledge on the sports industry.

I have learned many valuable lessons from working as a creative in the sports industry; being open to change, working as a team, thinking on your feet, but one lesson that resonates with me the most, is learning to have trust in myself and my skill set. It is important to remind yourself that you are here for a reason. Your skills, commitment, and love for the job are all things that keep you going in the industry, and have made you successful today.
